ROAD: ENDURANCE

New for 2015, we introduce the new Esatto series of Road Endurance bikes. Italian for “exact,” the Esattos are all about inspiring confidence while maintaining a certain element of comfort when it comes to the world of endurance riding. Featuring geometry tuned to Grand Fondo, gravel grinder and big days in the saddle, Esatto incorporates taller headtubes and shorter top tubes while delivering perfectly balanced handling. Each model is available in six sizes (49, 52, 54, 56, 58 and 61cm) to provide excellent fit. Essentially, a unique road bike catering to the discerning road cyclist who primarily values body fit and comfort but still wants a machine that performs flawlessly.

3-2.5 TITANIUM

Building on the success of the Raijin, our first Titanium bike since we introduced the Ti Score and the Ti King Kahuna, you’ll find four Titanium framesets available throughout our MTB Trail and Road platforms. Truth be told, we’ve always been in love with the playful nature, simplicity, bomber construction and feather-light ride feel of Titanium. New for 2015, we introduce the Road Endurance Ti Esatto road frame, a smooth-riding, wickedly efficient addition to our Road collection. The Ti Esatto joins the Ti Explosif 27.5-inch Trail bike, the Ti Rove and the now legendary Raijin 29-inch XC hardtail.

As far as material construction is concerned, we exclusively use 3-2.5 Titanium, an incredibly strong and lightweight metal consisting of 3 percent aluminum, 2.5 percent vanadium, and 94.5 percent pure titanium. Excellent fatigue life, light weight, property consistency, form-ability, and corrosion resistance are but a few of the reasons 3-2.5 is still the premier frame material when it comes to high-quality, seamless tube titanium.

Kona’s 3-2.5 Ti bikes are manufactured in Tennessee, U.S.A. by Lynskey Performance Designs, one of the top titanium fabricators in the world. Our designers work closely with Lynskey’s experienced team of fabricators to ensure exacting standards when it comes to the development of Kona Titanium framesets. Rest assured, not only will you have a Kona Ti bike for life, we guarantee it will be the ride of your life.

COMPACT REAR TRIANGLE

Short chainstays and seatstays provide a perfect balance of stability and power transfer when out of the saddle and pedaling hard. Shorter seatstays also have less deflection during braking and accelerate faster than longer stays. A more compact rear triangle also helps the bike to negotiate tight-twisting sections of trail. The Honzo, Operator and Process 111 are good examples of 2015 bikes with incredibly compact rear triangles: quick, aggressive in corners, easy to maneuver and laterally stiff.

TAPERED HEADTUBE

Aside from improving the aesthetic, due to its cleaner lines and smooth transition between the fork crown and the headset cover, tapered headtubes also offer a more solid interface between forks with tapered steertubes and the bicycle frame itself, thanks to more weld contact area. More girth at the bottom of the headtube better distributes shock force, prolonging the bearing life of the headset itself, eliminates brake shudder, all while providing positive steering performance. The inherent strength of its triangular design also means a stronger steering position and improved balance, giving the rider more control in rough terrain. A zero-stack, tapered headtube also puts strength where the load is going—into the lower headset cup—maximizing bearing durability where it’s needed.

INTEGRATED HEADSET

Integrated headsets are simple, light and effective headset systems whereby the bearing race cups are actually part of the headtube, be they machined away and left with the headtube, or glued in (carbon) or welded in with steel or alloy. Like an internal headset, an integrated headset also reduces stack height, so the height of the stem and bars are more adjustable, giving the rider the best fit possible. Providing effective, precise steering, you’ll find integrated headsets on our collection of Road Endurance and Race bikes like the Zones and Esattos.
